Club Chat Terms

The short version: be the kind of person you would want in the right seat.

Club chat is part of the MIT Flying Club app. It is open to signed in club members. By using it you agree to what is below. If you do not agree, do not use it: nothing else in the app or on this site depends on it.

What it is, and what it is not

  • Announcements are written by club officers. Everyone signed in reads them. You cannot post or reply to one.
  • Your thread is a conversation between you and the club. Anything you write there is read by all club officers, not by one of them privately, and not by other members.
  • There is no member to member messaging. No other member can send you anything, and you cannot send anything to another member. That is deliberate.

What we ask of you

  • No harassment, hate, sexual content, threats or spam.
  • Do not post other people’s personal information.
  • Do not use it to sell things.
  • Nothing here is flight instruction, a weather briefing or a maintenance sign off. Ask your instructor, and make your own go or no go decision.

What officers can do

Officers can delete any message and can pause an account’s chat access. Repeated or serious breaches end chat access, and anything that looks like a safety or conduct issue may be raised with MIT.

Your messages

  • You can delete your own messages at any time.
  • Messages are kept for 12 months and then deleted automatically. Chat is not an archive.
  • Deleting your account removes your messages. See the privacy page for the detail.
  • Your display name at the time of writing is stored with the message. Your email address is never shown in chat.

Questions, or something wrong

Write to flying-exec@mit.edu, or say so in your thread. An officer reads it.
